A seminar on the Maastricht Treaty and its historical and current importance was held on 24th May in Vizela, northern Portugal. This seminar was held under the European Local Citizens project, funded by the European Commission, which has as partners the Municipality of Kallithea - Greece; the Hungarian National Association of Local Authorities; the National Union of County Councils of Romania; the Panikos Chatzichampis Foundation of Cyprus; Educ Pro; The Intermunicipal Community of La Ribera Baja, of Spain.
The main objectives of this project are to make the community more aware of its citizenship rights, to hold dissemination actions and events designed to encourage people to vote in the European elections and to train the community in the rights and duties that underpin European citizenship.
This seminar was attended by 63 young people, and a special guest was invited to give his testimony, a Greek citizen living in Portugal, who spoke about his personal experience as an emigrant and a person with access to the rights enshrined in the Maastricht Treaty.
