4th International Event
On October 23, 2024, EducPro proudly participated in a significant workshop focused on enhancing the role of EU mobile citizens in local policymaking, held in Limassol, Cyprus. This event was part of the European Local Citizens project (CERV) and was organized by the Panicos Hadjihambis Foundation at the Argo Cultural Centre.
The day began with a warm welcome and coffee for participants arriving from various partner organizations. Dr. Christina Ionela Neokleous introduced the event, setting the tone for a day dedicated to fostering dialogue on citizen involvement in governance.
Mr. Yiannis Tsouloftas, Chairman of the Limassol District Local Government Organisation, delivered a compelling presentation on the importance of engaging EU citizens in local and regional policymaking in Cyprus. Following this, the Mayor of Kourion Municipality, Mr. Pantelis Georgiou, offered insights into the municipality's efforts to integrate citizens into the decision-making process.
One of the highlights of the workshop was a session where Mrs. Phedra Sarikakis shared firsthand experiences from EU citizens living in Cyprus. This personal perspective emphasized the need for inclusive practices that consider the voices of all residents.
After a coffee break, the attendees participated in working groups that fostered lively discussions on the presentations and explored practical strategies for improving citizen engagement. The results of these discussions were shared in a plenary session, where key points and actionable insights were highlighted.
The event also provided an opportunity for networking and cultural exchange. Participants enjoyed a traditional lunch at the headquarters of the Panicos Hadjihambis Foundation, followed by guided tours of Erimi and Limassol, allowing them to appreciate the local culture and community.
In the evening, attendees were treated to a cultural performance by Impulse Dance Studio, led by Stella Hadjihambi, paired with a delightful dinner featuring Cyprus's rich gastronomic heritage.
EducPro’s participation in this workshop reflects its ongoing commitment to empowering local communities through active citizen engagement. By collaborating with other partners in the CERV project, EducPro aims to promote inclusive policymaking that benefits all residents, enhancing democratic practices across the EU.
