Solidarity Across Towns: Promoting Cultural Diversity, Heritage, and Solidarity in Bucharest
From 9th to 12th of February 2025, the Associação EducPro team was present at the third international meeting of the “SOLIDARITOWN – Solidarity Across Towns” project. Taking place in Bucharest, Romania, the meeting gathered participants from 8 European towns to explore the cultural diversity, promote solidarity, and showcase the significance of Christmas traditions across the continent. The event was hosted by the Se Poate Association, and marked an important milestone in our 24-month work plan designed to address European challenges such as sustainable development, migration, human rights, and the green transition.
The meeting focused particularly on solidarity and cultural economy based on traditions and heritage. It fostered multicultural dialogue and aimed at exploring how cultural heritage can drive new opportunities. Key activities included a brainstorming session and debate on the potential of cultural heritage for job creation, together with group reflections on intercultural understanding. Participants also enjoyed a Bucharest Heritage Journey, a sightseeing tour that highlighted the city's cultural landmarks, guided by students from the University of Bucharest. There were also discussions on pressing European issues, such as demographic challenges and depopulation in rural areas, and a hands-on Ideas LAB workshop where together with Loredana Enache, the heart and brains behind the "Brâu" waist bags project, participants explored generating business projects based on cultural traditions. We wrapped it up with a crochet workshop led by volunteers from Se Poate, creating some traditional pieces and discussing impactful community projects rooted in heritage.
This gathering in Bucharest brought a step closer to achieving the objectives of Solidarity Across Towns, highlighting the importance of intercultural dialogue and the potential for cultural heritage to drive both economic and social progress. As the project continues, we look forward to upcoming events that will further promote these values and strengthen the bonds between European towns.
